Using a long, serrated knife, cut bread in half horizontally. Set bread aside. Prepare toppings and set aside. In a large bowl, combine taco sauce, onion, garlic, chili powder, and meat; mix well. Turn meat mixture onto a large baking sheet lined with wax paper; pat into large, round patty one inch wider than bread. Holding both ends of baking sheet, invert meat patty onto a lightly greased grill 4 - 6 inches above a solid bed of medium coals. Lift off the wax paper. Cook for about 7 minutes, then turn. Continue to cook to desired doneness. Slice cooked burger back onto a baking sheet; keep warm. Place bread halves on grill, cut side down, and heat until lightly toasted. Slide the burger onto bottom half of bread. Arrange topping on burger. Cut into serving sized wedges.
